Labour Weekend
Parking We were intending to open the parking area at 8 Brick Bay Drive in time for Labour Weekend, but sadly, the grass has not grown sufficiently. We have however got approval to use the angle parking on the right side of the driveway. Admittedly, this can accommodate only 8-10 cars, all angle parked but like all weekends from now through Christmas, if the weather is good, every single carpark is in hot demand. The good news is that members may park anywhere within the grounds around the SYC clubrooms this weekend, provide they display their membership card, and disappear by the early hour of Tuesday morning, 27 October when all the barge and construction workers return to the scene. Machinery will be moved so that plenty of parking is available just inside the entrance to the club. Pacific Pontoons will be working on Saturday and Monday and have been asked to cone/tape off the area they need. Everything else is yours. Please keep all access-ways clear and refrain from parking under or too close to the boats that are in the haulout area. Every now and then, some clown mindlessly parks there, preventing reasonable access to the hauled out boats, then toddles off to sea. Such cars are in danger of being damaged or seriously disfigured. We hope this helps out some of you, and we do hope you have an enjoyable weekend. Coastal Classic Wishing all those participating in this fabulous event, a fast, safe and enjoyable trip. Cruising for Everyone this weekend As mentioned in recent newsletters, there is a cruising event taking place from Algies to Kawau this weekend, followed by a get-together at Mansion House with a BYO bbq ashore. All members are invited to join in, no matter what type of boat they have. Show your support for the club by flying your SYC burgee. Contact organiser Conway Stewart 027 293 0480 for more details. Rugby RWC continues with South Africa playing NZ this Sunday. Watch it live on the big screen at KBC (Kawau Boating Club) at 4am on Sunday morning 25 Oct. As KBC have a big night at the club on Saturday, the bar may not be open too early in the morning, but may be open for the repeat of the game to be held at 6am. See KBC website for further details. The weather must surely improve for the weekend. Lets hope so.
